Domhnall, Gaelic for Donald, was reared at Edward I's court in England, choosing to remain there rather than return to Scotland in an exchange of prisoners between Scots and English after Bannockburn; was subsequently often in the retinue of Edward II of England, notably as Keeper of Newark Castle Jan 1321/2; raised a force in Scotland 1327 and invaded England seeking to restore Edward II to the throne; appointed Regent of Scotland 1332 despite his Anglophilia; married Isabel, just conceivably daughter of Sir Alexander Stewart of Bonkyl, and was killed at the Battle of Dupplin 12 Aug 1332, when disaffected Scottish nobles under Edward Balliol and with English support invaded Scotland to assert Edward's claim to the throne. [Burke's Peerage]
It is not known when Domhnall was born however his parents were married about 1292 or later so a suggested birthyear of about 1294 is plausable but the actual year is not known for certain.
Domhnull married, as her first of thre husbands, Isabel Stewart. The marriage probably took place about 1328 as one of their children was born in 1330.
