Charlotte Mansfield was an avid photographer from the time her dad took her to the darkroom of an old Army buddy where she saw strips of film hanging on a line. Her higher education included attendance at Tonkawa College, receiving a Bachelors degree in English from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1941, and returning there in 1981 to complete a BS in Photo Journalism and a Masters Degree in Journalism in 1983. Her fascination with photography followed her all the way to service in the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps. At the beginning of World War 2, she served in England then remained as a civilian for 15 months after her discharge from that period of service. She re-enlisted in the Women's Army Corps and worked in Photo Labs at bases in the United States and Germany. When the Air Force became a separate service, she became a WAF where she worked until her retirement in 1973 after 30 years of military service. She had earned the rank of SMSgt(E-8).
Photography remained her first love. She was an active member of the Oklahoma Camera Club since 1963. Charlotte was buried with full military honors at Fort Gibson National Cemetery in Muskogee County, OK.
