Biography

1685 Birth and Parents

Elizabeth Magruder was born, say, 1689 in Calvert County, Maryland, the daughter of Samuel Magruder and his wife Sarah. ^[1] She was presumably born where the family lived, in then Calvert County, Maryland.

1703 First Marriage to Ninian Beall, Jr of Ninian

About 1703 Elizabeth married her first husband, Ninian Beall, Jr, who was born in Calvert Co 1669, son of Ninian Beall, Immigrant. ^[2] Fielder M. M. Beall estimates Ninian Jr's birth year as 1674, however, Ninian, Jr. had land surveyed in 1688, and could only do so after reaching the age of majority. ^[2]

Because Elizabeth married the son of Ninian Beall, Senior, many genealogies which show Elizabeth's mother Sarah to be a daughter of Ninian are problematic. A full discussion of the different theories of Sarah's parenthood are presented at The Mystery of Sarah Magruder and Mary Pottenger.

Ninian Beall, Jr, died in 1710. Ninian, Jr's will was written November 10, 1710, and proved the following January 6 (1710/11) ^{[3] [4]}

When Ninian Sr's will was written in 1717, Ninian Sr named Ninian Jr's children Mary and Samuel in his own will, "to be brought up according to their station."

1711 Inheritance from Father

Elizabeth Magruder was named in the will of her father Samuel to receive £100 to buy a "gown & pretty cote". ^[5]

1712 Second Marriage to William Beall of Alexander

After Ninian's death, his widow Elizabeth married "her kinsman" ^[6] William Beall, son of Alexander Beall, Immigrant.

The Elizabeth who married William Beall was named as a child of Samuel Magruder by Papenfuse. ^[7]

1731 Inheritance from Mother

Elizabeth was named in her mother Sarah's 1731 will as the wife of William Beall.

1764 Death

She died after 13 Aug 1764 in Frederick County, Maryland. ^[1]

Children

Elizabeth's children by her first marriage were named in her father-in-law's will ^[5]

1. Samuel, Sr, b. 1706, married say 1733 Jane Edmonston, b. 1715. Samuel was a General in the Revolution
2. Mary, born say 1708, married her first cousin Capt James Edmonston of Prince Georges County, son of Jane Beall and Col. Archibald Edmonston.
