Iseabail (Isobel) Mackay was born about 1743. She is the daughter of Dòmhnall Mackay and Ester Gunn.
Note there is easy confusion of two related Isobels who married two unrelated Hughs in two separate generations of this family: There are two Isobels (one the aunt of the other but births only 8 years apart) married a Hugh in different generations. The records are confusing; the patronymics help when analysed carefully: 1. The Aunt: Isobel MacKay (see also Family Search: GXCS-VSL) or Nin Dholicachin or simply Nin Dhonil, (ie dau of DONALD, son of Hector 2nd of Skerray)=Hugh Mackay(Family Search: GXC3-DXF) Or MacDhol icEmish macUilam, (ie son of Donald, son of James, son of William). The only Durness OPR marriage about the right time has no clear connection to this Hugh and Isobel(la):18 Dec 1766 Hugh MacKay, Hope; Isabella MacKay, Torrintarf, Tongue. It is therefore likely the marriage was before the marriage records start in 1765. Children:Barbara b.1768, Hugh b.1771, Alexander b.1776, George b.1778, Barbara b.1784, William Scobie b.1787, Anne b.1788.
2. The Niece: Isobel MacKay(see also Family Search: GXHL-D6K) Or NinAchin MacDhol icachin Skerray (ie dau of HECTOR, son of Donald, son of Hector) =(m.1775)-Hugh Mackay (Family Search: 9N9T-H1T) Or MacEn IcEn IcDhol IcUilam, (ie son of Eoin/John, son of Eoin, son of Donald, Son of William - some births records have 'illegitimate son of Eoin'). Children: John? b.1776, Ann b.1781, James b.1783, Hector b.1787, Barbara b.1789, John b.1792
