Biography

Eachann (Mackay) Mackay II of Skerray is a member of Clan MacKay.

Eachann Mackay of Skerray was born about 1655, son of Eòin Mackay (>1620 - ), and Maighread Munro (~1632- ). Hector married Barabal Mackay (~1660 - ) about 1685.

Their six children were: Dòmhnall Mackay, 'III of Skerray', born about 1680; Eòin of Clashneach or Mussel, born about 1683, factor for the 3rd Lord Reay,; BarabalMackay, born about 1685. who married John Munro of Skinit; Anna Mackay, born about 1687, who married Angus Mackay of Rennivie; Aonghas Mackay, born about 1689, "third lawful son" of Hector and tacksman of Kinloch; and Seòras Mackay, born about 1695.

Hector died in 1723.

"precept of Clare Constat 10 Jan 1679; [Hector] had sasine of Skerray 7 Mar 1679 as heir to his deceased brother John.He married Barbara, daughter of Captain William Mackay of Borley, who had sasine in life-rent of Skerray, 22nd Feb 1686, issue six children: -

1. Donald 'Second of Skerray'; 2. John of Clashneach, factor for the 3rd Lord Reay, and a large dealer. He married Catherine, daughter of William Mackay of Strathan-Melness, and had known issue four children: - i. Colonel Hugh, planter in Jamaica, afterwards tacksman of Balnakiel, married first, Francis de la Rue, issue: - Isabella, married Hugh, son of Robert Mackay, tutor of Farr. Colonel Hugh married secondly, Janet Sutherland, issue a large family, but the only one who left issue was Caroline, who married Captain John Mackay VIc. of Borgie, and afterwards of Skerray. ii. John, witnessed a sasine of Rennivie, 30th Aug 1757 iii. Isobel, married John, son of Kenneth Sutherland of Keoldale, issue: - Harriot. iv. Mary, married Donald Mackay, Clashneach, with issue; 3. Angus, "third lawful son", tacksman of Kinloch; 4. George; 5. Barbara, married John Munro, Skinit; and 6. Ann, married Angus Mackay of Rennivie "
