Biography

Davina was christened on 7 May 1804 in Lairg, Sutherland, Scotland ^[1]. Her parents were James MacKay and Anna MacDonald.

She emigrated to Nova Scotia with her parents and siblings, arriving in 1829 ^{[2] [3]}

William and Davina moved from Nova Scotia to Illinois sometime between their son William's birth in 1841 (in Nova Scotia) and their son Daniel's 1843 birth in Illinois. In 1870, they resided in Salem Township, Carroll, Illinois ^[10]

She passed away in 1877 and was buried in the Oakville Cemetery in Mount Carroll, Carroll County, Illinois ^[11].

Research Notes

Davina and William's oldest son Charles was christened in Lairg, Scotland on 5 Feb 1830 ^[6]. Since Davina arrived in Nova Scotia with her parents in 1829, their son's christening in Scotland a year later causes some confusion. It seems unlikely that Davina and William would make the difficult journey back to Scotland with an infant. No other records for Charles have been located. More research is needed.
