Biography

MacKAY, Alexander Norman "Al" - 76, passed away peacefully, March 27, 2007, at home surrounded by his loving family.[1]

Born on May 13, 1930, in Inverness, he was a son of Howard and Mathilda (MacLean) MacKay. He was a beloved husband, devoted father, proud poppy, cherished brother and loyal friend. He worked as a fisherman most of his life and was co-founder and proprietor of Whale Cove Summer Village. He was an active member of Margaree Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He thoroughly enjoyed his garden and orchard and was well-known for his tomatoes and strawberries. His grandchildren were definitely his pride and joy.

Left to mourn with many fond memories are his loving wife of 47 years, Rosie; sons, Howie (Carolyn), Moscow; Gordon (Charline), Whale Cove; Byron (Marilyn), Ingonish; daughter, Arlene (Cyril), Whale Cove; nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Amanda, Brennan, David, Kyle, Dylan, Shamus, Shannon, and Savannah; brothers, Fred (Gloria), Sarnia Ont.; Arthur (Ruby) MacKay, and sister, Barbara MacKay, both of Whale Cove. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Gordon and sisters, Vera and Laura.

The family would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to the home care support staff and Marie for the wonderful care and compassion provided during the course of Al's illness. Your kindness will never be forgotten. Visitation will be in Inverness Funeral Home today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be on Saturday, March 31, at 11 a.m. in Calvin United Church, Margaree Harbour, Rev. Barbara Blois officiating. Burial to follow in Whale Cove Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Memorial donations may be made to Whale Cove Cemetery Fund, Margaree Harbour, or to a charity of your choice.
