Kathleen "Kay" MacDonald, daughter of Albert MacDonald [1] and Amelia Annie (Stradling) MacDonald, [2] was born 24 March 1922 in Moncton, Westmorland, New Brunswick, Canada [3] and grew up in Humphreys, Westmorland, New Brunswick, Canada.
She married Leonard (Curtis) Lawrence on 15 July 1944 at the United Church Parsonage, Sunny Brae, Westmorland, New Brunswick, Canada with witnesses, Joseph MacDonald and Mrs. Leslie (Flewelling) Schofield. [4]
Kay was a religious women and a lifelong member of the Moncton First Church of the Nazarene, where she taught Sunday school for many years.
She had a knack for cooking... for two or 32. If you arrived near a meal time, whether family or friend, hearty food was availed to all with a smile. There was never a shortage of home made bread, pies, cakes, or cookies at the Lawrence's either.
Family was everything to Kay and Len. They raised 5 children on Purdy Avenue in Moncton and added a few other nearby rental properties over the years too, which some of their kids lived in as each moved out. After Len started his long-term contract for the Moncton to Cape Tormentine mail route, they also purchased a small farm in Bayfield, Westmorland, New Brunswick, where he would stay during the day between mail routes and their family congregated on many weekends and holidays.
Kay helped raise many of her grand children too as she routinely looked after them while her young adult children were working. There were times when 9 Purdy Ave looked more like a day care. To all her grandchildren, she was always their loving Nanny.
Kay and Len raised their children and grandchildren to always be there for one another... family came first! It was never a question of if someone would help, just a question of how they could. Later, as the younger generations spread across Canada, even great distances could not deter the strong family bonds they forged in their family. [5]
Surrounded by her loving family, Kay died on 1 September 2010 at the Moncton Hospital in Moncton [6] and was buried on 3 September 2010 in Elmwood Cemetery, Moncton. [7] [6]
