Biography

Mary Elizabeth Lyons was born on 5 Feb 1866 in Brook, Newton, Indiana, ^[1] the daughter of Morris Lyons and Mary Ann Montgomery. ^[2]

In 1870 Mary was four years old and livng in Iroquois, Newton, Indiana (Post Office: Brook) with her parents and siblings. ^[3]

In 1880 she was 14 years old and living with her widowed mother and siblings in Iroquis, Newton, Indiana. ^[4]

She married John A Pence on 21 Feb 1884 in Newton County, Indiana. ^[2]

In 1900 she was living with her husband and two children in Brook (Iroquois Township), Newton, Indiana. ^[5]

In 1910 she was living with her husband John and their two children Alma and John in Pueblo, Pueblo, Colorado. ^[6] Alma died later in 1910.

In 1920, she and her husband John, and son John were living together in Brook, Newton, Indiana. ^[7]

Her husband died in 1927 and she moved to Illinois to live with her son. In the 1930 census she can be seen as a 64 year old widow, living with her 31 year old, single, son John in Lockport, Will, Illinois. John was a high school teacher, they rented their home for $50 a month, and had a radio set. ^[8]

In 1940 she and her son John were still living in Lockport, Will, Illinois, with a lodger. ^[9]

She died on 13 Jul 1957 at the Lincoln Nursing Home in Joliet, Will, Illinois, ^[1] and was buried at Riverside Cemetery in Brook, Newton, Indiana. ^[10]
