Biography

George Arnold Lynch was the son of George Walter Lynch (1899–1970) and Consuela Monica Witherington (1897–1990).

George was a part of the June 27, 1944 graduating class of Tuskegee Airmen. (See attached Lucky Seven newspaper article). He served as a US military pilot during World War II. He was one of the “Documented Original Tuskegee Airmen.” The Tuskegee Airmen were known for heroic combat service in support of Allied Forces in the European Theater. They served with the 332d Expeditionary Operations Group and the 477th Bombardment Group, both largely Black units of the United States Army Air Forces. He was known as a "Red Tail" pilot. When the pilots of the 332nd Fighter Group painted the tails of their P-47s red, the nickname "Red Tails" was coined. The red markings that distinguished the Tuskegee Airmen included red bands on the noses of P-51s as well as a red rudder; the P-51B, C and D Mustangs flew with similar color schemes, with red propeller spinners, yellow wing bands and all-red tail surfaces.

He married Geraldine Gaines on June 15, 1946. ^[1] They were the parents of Audrey and Anita.

Arnold died 15 May 1991, at age 67, in Roosevelt, Hempstead, Nassau, New York.^[2]
