Biography

Elijah Lusk was born in 1798 in Wythe Co. Virginia, son of David Lusk (1773–1830) and Chloe Julietta Bailey (1767–1848).

Eli (18) married Mary Elizabeth Bailey (21) (born after 1795 in Tazewell Co. Virginia) on November 23, 1817 in Tazewell Co. Virginia. [1]

Their children were:


Eli (60) married Mary Olivia Baker (58) (born 1800 in Giles Town, Shelby, Tennessee, United States) on June 2, 1859 in Wyoming Co. Virginia. [2]

Eli (69) married Nancy Akers (37) (born before 1830 in Floyd Co. Virginia; daughter of Emery B. Akers (abt. 1808–1853) and Elizabeth Graham (abt. 1810–aft. 1880)) on March 10, 1868 in Wyoming Co. West Virginia. [3]

In the 1850 census Eli (age 52) was in Wyoming, Wyoming, Virginia, United States.[4] Eli Lusk 52, James Lusk 30, Floyd Lusk 21, Eli Lusk 17, Elizabeth Lusk 17, Matthew Lusk 14, Anderson P Lusk 11, Mary Becelhamon 36.

In the 1860 census Eli (age 61) was in Wyoming, Virginia, United States.[5] Eli Lush 61, Ollie Lusk 54, Anderson P Lusk 21, Susan Stanley 16, Bathania Stanley 13, Robert Stanley 11.

In the 1870 census Eli was the head of household in Wood, West Virginia, United States.[6] Eli, Nancy 39.

Eli died in 1870 in Wyoming Co. West Virginia, aged 71.

Research Notes

A marriage between Nancy Lambert and Eli would have had to have happened prior to his marriage to Mary Elizabeth Bailey if she is the mother of Mary Nancy Lusk Morgan, as originally stated in this profile. Mary Nancy's death certificate states she was born in 1824 and her mother is Mary. Not Nancy Lambert. Death certificates are often incorrect, though. Unfortunately, the only only source available for a marriage between Lambert and Lusk is a secondary source citing a secondary source and it also credits all his children to Nancy Lambert which is also incorrect. http://www.coalexchange.com/smith/mcdowella/pafg42.htm#680

Nancy Lambert Lusk cannot be the mother of Nancy Lusk if she married Eli in 1850. Also, Nancy's death cert states her mother is Mary Lusk. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NM5M-9H2 Are there any other sources with Nancy Lambert as a spouse for Eli?

I am going to move the information about a marriage to Nancy Lambert to research notes and change the mother of Mary Nancy Lusk to Mary Elizabeth Bailey. Nancy was born during the marriage of Eli and Mary. Mary is the mother listed on her death record. And there don't seem to be any sources for a marriage between a Nancy Lambert and Eli. The profile currently states 1850 but that their daughter was born in 1817/1824.
