Harlan Haywood Lusk was born on 22 August 1913 in Avoca, Jones County, Texas, United States.^[1] His parents were James Haywood Lusk (1879 - 1963) and Martha Eva (Grimes) Lusk (1887 - 1976). His name was not recorded on his Texas Birth Certificate.^[2][3][4]

Harlan H. Lusk enlisted in the United States Army on 29 December 1939. He was a World War II veteran, serving in Company A 394th Infantry, 99th Infantry Division in the European Theater for slightly over five months for which he was awarded the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Combat Ribbon. He was discharged on 12 April 1945, at which time he held the rank of Second Lieutenant.^[7][8]

1940 United States Census, Enumeration District 43-142, Ft. Wadsworth, Richmond Borough, Richmond County, New York: Harlan H. Lusk was enumerated living in United States Government Quarters. He was 26 years old and a Private in the United States Army. His marital status was single.^[9]

He was an officer with the Abilene Police Department. He served as a mail carrier for the United States Post Office for 26 years.^[4] He was of the Baptist faith.

He was married at least three times. Two of his wives were mentioned in his obituary.^[4]

1. Harlan was married to Mary Magdeline Kuhl before April 1942 which was the date she filed a name change with the Social Security Administration.^[10] They were the parents of at least one child who may still be living.
2. Barbara Worth (Dunn) Williams Lusk, died in 1987. According to their FindAGrave memorials Harlan and Barbara were married in 1952. Their marriage was announced in the Abilene Reporter-News as having taken place on 19 November 1952.^[11]
3. Harlan Lusk married Opal Nancy (Watkins) Wolfe on 26 November 1988 in Collin County, Texas. Opal died in 2013. ^[12]

His obituary named a total of six children, all of whom are potentially living. Other than one child, it is not known by this researcher which of his wives was the mother of the children. It is probable some of the children listed were his step-children, children of his second wife, Barbara.^[4]

Harlan Haywood Lusk passed away on 13 December 1989 in Taylor County, Texas. He was 76 years old.^[1][13][3] He was buried in Elmwood Memorial Park, Abilene, Taylor County, Texas. A double stone marks his grave and that of his wife, Barbara D. Lusk. She passed away in 1987.^[14][4]
