Biography

Merriken was born in 1834. He was the son of Jacob Lukens and Sarah Cushman (Bliss) Lukens (1810-1886) ^[1]He married Olive A (Lang) Lukens (1840-1927) in 1864 ^[2]and had one daughter who died in infancy. He then adopted his brother's child Olive Lutie (Lukens) Whitehead (1871-1962)^[1]

Merriken graduated from Oberlin College with bachelor of Arts in 1863, and Master of Arts in 1867. He went on to become a medical Dr. with a Degree from Homeopathic Medical College, Cleveland. He practiced medicine Ohio^[3] and Georgia.^{[4] [5][1]}

He died in 1917 in Atlanta, Georgia. He is buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Wellington, Ohio. ^[6]
