Linda Lockhart wrote:

Our William Lockhart and family, of Guilford County, North Carolina, settled in Orange County, Indiana, about 1816. William married Jean Dilworth in Guilford County in 1799. The 1800 Guilford County census lists William, wife and a daughter, under age 10.

Apparently Jean Dilworth Lockhart died before 1802 when William remarried to Hannah Maxwell, daughter of Samuel Maxwell. The 1810 Guilford County lists William, wife and 4 males and 3 females, under age 10, and a female age 16-26.

William and Hannah Lockhart lived on the Hawes River in Guilford County on land Hannah received as her share of her father's estate. William and Hannah later purchased additional land and sold the land Hannah had inherited. In 1815 William and Hannah sold their land in Guilford County.

In 1816 William Lockhart purchased 140 acres of land in Orange County, Indiana. William and Hannah appears in the 1820 Orange County census with 5 males and 3 females. William's children were Rachel, daughter of Jean Dilworth Lockhart, Samuel, Mitchell, Eleazor, Alexander, Mary, Martha, Nancy and possibly a son Henry.

William Lockhart's will was written in November 1822 and probated in December 1822 in Orange County, Indiana. Hannah Lockhart died 1850-1860.^[1]
