Biography

Olive Clyde Locke was born on 16 June 1931 in Laurel Hill, Okaloosa County, Florida, United States. He was the son of Elbert Lee Locke (1889 - 1962) and Olive L. (Green) Locke (1895 - 1942).^[1]

He was enumerated in the household of his parents on the 1935 Florida State Census and the 1940 United States Census. On both, he and his family were living in Laurel Hill, Okaloosa County, Florida.^[2][3]

When the 1950 United States Census was taken, he was living in the household of his brother-in-law, Howard Burleson, in Crestview, Okaloosa County, Florida.^[4]

From his obituary: "He was the first member of his family to go to college and graduated from the University of Florida in 1955. In 1956 Clyde was commissioned as an officer in the United States Navy. During his military career Clyde had tours of duty on the aircraft carrier USS Lake Champlain, the submarine tender USS Proteus in Guam, and in Oakland, CA, Washington, DC, New York, Taiwan, the Pentagon and London. Clyde retired from the Navy in 1977 and began a second career at Westinghouse Corporation in Maryland...Clyde was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Crestview."^[1]

Clyde was married and the father of at least two children, all of whom are potentially still living.^[1]

Olive Clyde Locke died on 08 January 2022 in Haymarket, Prince William County, Virginia at the age of 90. He was buried in Almarante Cemetery, Laurel Hill, Okaloosa County, Florida.^[1][5]
