Stacy Barcroft Lloyd, Jr. was a businessman, horse breeder, dairy cattle farmer and yachtsman. He was the founder of the equestrian journal, "The Chronicle of the Horse", and a renowned tandem carriage driver.
He was born on 08 July 1908 in Ardmore, Lower Merion Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, USA and was the son of Eleanor Burroughs (Morris, 1881–1981) and Stacy Barcroft Lloyd, Sr. (1876-1941) who was a banker. The Lloyd family were of a prestigious social background dating to the time of William Penn in Philadelphia.
Stacy Barcroft Lloyd, Jr. first married on 25 Nov 1932 to Rachel Lowe "Bunny" Lambert (1910-2014) and they divorced about 1948.
During World War II he served as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Office of Strategic Services in Europe. He shared a flat in Belgravia with another OSS operative, Paul Mellon, who later married his ex-wife, Rachel.
Stacy Barcroft Lloyd, Jr. married secondly about 1950 to Alice Woodward Babcock (1927–1980) and they had a son, Robin Lloyd, who was a writer, journalist, and announcer for NBC. During their 30 year marriage, they lived at St. Croix in the United States Virgin Islands where they were among the biggest landowners on the island.
Upon his wife's death, he moved back to the mainland, to reside at his Long Pond Farm in Berryville, Clark County, Virginia, USA.
Stacy Barcroft Lloyd, Jr. married thirdly about 1981 to Virginia Ida “Vidy” Boy-Ed, daughter of German Naval Attache, Karl Boy-Ed and Virginia G. Mackay-Smith who was a daughter of Bishop Alexander Mackay-Smith of the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania.
Stacy died on 06 December 1994 in Berryville, Clarke County, Virginia, USA as a result of a carriage driving accident while working with a young horse. He was buried in Saint James Episcopal Churchyard at Hyde Park, Dutchess County, New York, USA. [1]
