Hi Barton, you can have up to 20 tags altogether, the can be surnames, locations, a period in history that interests you, politicians, Presidents anything like that, this is a list of the projects we have to offer

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Projects You can add one of those as a tag if any are of interest.

If you click on the edit tab, you can add information in your biography box from there.

Anytime you need any help, please let me know.

Take care

Karen

Hi Barton

It is better if you have one tag for each surname you are researching and the location

If you create separate tags for your surnames, the tags become clickable links to pages of others who want to collaborate about that surname. With the surnames combined in a tag, that isn't possible. This link may help you [1]

Your Wiki Genealogy Feed will show the activity connected to the surnames and places relating to your tags.

In tag boxes commas and apostrophes don't work, if you need to use an apostrophe or separate anything with a comma use _ instead, that does work

I was trying to complete my profile, and entered in different surnames in my family in one tag field, separated by commas. When I was done and tried to submit, I got a prompt saying enter in one tag per field. You can only enter in one tag per box, so a maximum of 3 for the 3 tag boxes on your profile page? This seems odd.

One more thing Barton, after becoming a member you should be able to extract profiles from your Gedcom. Be sure by looking in the Search boxes at the top of pages not to extract a profile that is a duplicate. We strive NOT to create duplicates. If there are, they have to be merged.

GEDCOMpare Process Wikitree Video

GEDCOMpare another to read. These might help.

BE SURE to read the links from your personal page

After becoming a member of WikiTree you can click under COLLABORATION- to join profiles's Trusted access for each profile, which is sent to them via WikiTree I would also write the Profile managers. with the type of corrections you really need good sources to list on your note to them to support what you have to tell them.

Without your being A member it is just like someone writing from the internet saying xxx work is wrong.

Many disagreements start over detaching a wife or ? with no sources.

When you do correct the profile, be sure to list the sources. On the biography of an ancestor, in edit there is a horizontal line to list any changes you make, then SAVE.

Hi Barton, before you can do the other recommendations, you need to complete joining WikiTree.

To be confirmed you need to:

1) Follow this link Add tags to complete as tags, sentence in biography or a comment on your profile page for your genealogical interests. Tags may be family names of mother, grandmothers, locations.

2) Volunteer Navigation Home Page. The button is rectangular dark green, labeled "Add tags and Volunteer."

After this any greeter will confirm you as a full member and you can add your family.

P.S. If links do not work in an email from WikiTree, try them from the comment section of your profile page.
