Biography

National Flag of Wales
Thomas Lewis was born in Wales.

Thomas was baptised at Saint Thomas Parish Church Haverfordwest on the 15th July 1823.

At the first census in 1841, Thomas can be found living with his parents and family at St Thomas Green in Haverfordwest.

He moved to Llanelly in Carmarthenshire sometime before his marriage on the 13th October 1850 to Esther Anne Goulstone at St' John's parish church in Llanelly. His occupation is listed as a saddler on the marriage entry in the parish register.

Thomas and his growing family can be found resident in Water Street Llanelly in the 1851 and 1861 census where he is occupied as a Saddler.

In the 1871 census he is still in Water Street at the "White Hart" and is now an Inn Keeper as well as a Master Saddler. It is possible that he was at the White Hart in the earlier census records but the information is not on the record.

In 1874 Thomas tried to sell the White Hart Inn but the purchaser was refused a licence by the magistrates according to an article in the Western Mail published on the 6th November 1874. There is a further article in the Welshman newspaper of the 30th July 1875 concerning a legal dispute about the sale.

By 1881 Thomas appears to have rid himself of the White Hart but is still living in the adjacent buildings and carrying on his trade as a Saddler and Harness maker.

Thomas passed away in January 1894 at the age of 70 and was buried at St Paul's parish church Llanelly Carmarthenshire on the 31st January.
