Biography

Anna Barbara Lenz,first of 11 children born to Nicholas and Gertrude. Her father Nicolas was one of four brothers who left Alendorf, Germany. He came across to Wisconsin and in 1857 married Gertrude Rosenplanter at Kenosha and Anna Barbara was born in Racine. The family settled at Union Hill, Le Sueur, Minnesota and she married John Schneider there in 1881. Most of their children were born in Minnesota but they moved to Turton before 1910.

Excerpt from Turton Centennial Book "John Schneider was born in Belle Plaine , Minn, on March 18,1859. Anna Barbara Lenz was born in Burlington, Wis. on Feb 24,1859. They were married at Union Hill, Minn, in 1881 and lived in that area where their ten children were born and raised. Nick and Gertie, their two oldest children, were the first of the family to move to South Dakota to the Turton area. Later the rest of the family moved here and settled a few miles southeast of Turton. Most of their married lives was spent in Turton Township and Turton. John passed away on December 21,1928 on a fa rm a short distance east of Turton. Anna passed away on Ju ly 11,1936 in Conde at the home of her son, Johnny. The children of John Sr and Anna nearly all married, lived and raised their families in the area." [1]
