She was a suffragette activist. After women got the vote in 1919, she dedicated her efforts to encouraging turnout among women voters. She served as the President of the League of Women Voters of Maryland for almost 20 years.
She was also a social reformer in Baltimore, establishing the Children's Playground League and providing support to young female delinquents and protecting their rights during interrogation, advocating for the development of juvenile courts, and later the Montrose School for Girls.
