Hi Megan

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Unknown-547786

Frederick's name at birth has been incorrectly entered as Unknown.

Could you please amend the Last Name at Birth to Coyne or add me to his Trusted List so I can make the change myself.

Thanks Steve

Hi Pam,

Thanks. I am wondering if there is any magical system by ways I could import my My Heritage tree over here. I am a free member at MH but am almost out of space for the free amount. Warmly, Megan

Hi Megan,

That's exactly how I ended up here! So I brought my tree over in what's called a GEDcom, a GEDcom is exported from MyHeritage and uploaded here at WikiTree, where you will need to compare your GEDcom to other profiles already on WikiTree. GEDcom's can be time comsuming to compare properly, however are really great at finding duplicates. A lot of people get stuck in the GEDcompare at the part where they need to compare ALL suggested matches (either reject or match) before the system will add the "add" button.

The best thing to do would be to upgrade (its completely free). If you want to communicate with cousins or others about genealogy (whether or not you want to add profiles on our single family tree), you can upgrade at no cost to the Family Member level at any time by adding your genealogy communication preferences.

Help:Membership

To do this, click on the upgrade link on either your navigation or profile page.

If you have any hassles, or have any questions please don't hesitate to let me know.

Kindest regards, Pam

Hi Pam. I did it! But now its asking for all the compares......what if I have no idea which is correct?

Thanks again, Megan

That's great Megan, well done!

Every suggested, matched, or rejected WikiTree ID will have a compare button next to it. Clicking it takes you to a detailed comparison pop-up with more action buttons. When you click a "compare" action button you'll see a detailed comparison of the person in your GEDCOM (on the left) with the corresponding profile on WikiTree (on the right). Beneath the starting person are rows for the Father, Mother, Siblings, Spouses, and Children of the person in your GEDCOM and the profile on WikiTree.

Comparison pop-ups generally give you all the information you need to decide if the person in your GEDCOM matches the profile on WikiTree, i.e. if they represent the same person. If they do, click the "match" button. If they don't, click the "reject" button.

If you're not sure whether they're the same person you can take a closer look at the profile on WikiTree by clicking the person's name in the right column. If the WikiTree profile is private you may need to contact the Profile Manager or request Trusted List access.

If you've done all of that and are still unsure then add your profile, you can merge later if you have to.

Good luck, have fun...and I hope you get a few matches since that means you've made connections to our great big collaborative family tree.

I went through all of the compares and now I click my family tree and there is only me. Should that gedcom not have populated to it? #confused
A lot of people get stuck at this point here GEDcompare Add button, you need to either reject or match ALL of the suggestions before the "add" buttons appear.

Let me know if this doesn't help.

I have but there were a few I left because I wasn't sure if i should match or reject. Not enough info. Do I have to narrow it down totally?
Yes, unfortunately they all have to be completed before the system will add the "add" button. If you aren't sure then reject and maybe later if they are duplicates you can merge.
Ok, I did that but my tree is still empty. I know its "our tree" but doesn't mine show anything? I don't get it... :)
The system will need you to do a refresh - just in case someone else has added a new profile for someone who is in your GEDcom. One or two new suggestions might pop up. You can find the link to refresh in the line above where it says 211/211 or at the very bottom in a dark green box.

I hope this helps, as always - don't be shy to let me know if you're having any problems.

Kind regards, Pam

I don't think I'm even there anymore. I really don't understand this system. :| I'd show you a screen cap of what I see but it won't let me paste it here. Can you tell me where to see my family tree? I see me and my parents, only that.
I'm sending you a private message, this will give you my email address.

Chat soon, Pam
