Biography

This profile is for one of the men named Isaac Lefevre who is mentioned in George Newton LeFevre’s The Pennsylvania LeFevres, said there to have been born in 1648 and died in a dungeon in 1702. But no evidence has been found so far that he actually existed.

Here is what LeFevre has to say about him and his parents:

Of Andrew LeFevre of 1604 is recorded by his Huguenot pastor: “They (Andrew LeFevre and his wife) were the best people among us.” Another person wrote of them: “Having walked before God in Christian simplicity and performed their duty, they both died at a good old age.” Andrew’s son Isaac, of 1648, suffered severe persecution by the Roman Catholics for seventeen years because of his loyalty to Christ his Saviour. He died in a dungeon in a fort in 1702. Abraham LeFevre, of 1632, another son and a faithful Huguenot, with his wife and three sons and three daughters were killed by the Roman Catholics in 1685, after the revoking of the Edict of Nantes, because of the nobility of their character.” [1]

Isaac also figures in a family tree on p. 10, where he is shown as the brother of actual, documented individuals Simon Lefevre (abt.1640-1690) and Andrew Lefevre (abt.1636-1696) (pioneers of New Paltz, New York) and the uncle of Isaac LeFevre (1669-1751), early settler of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania).

However, no primary evidence has yet been uncovered that he, his father Andre Lefevre (abt.1604-abt.1670) or his siblings Abraham Lefevre (abt.1632-1685) and Judith Lefevre (1644-1690) ever existed, or if they did, that they had any relationship to Simon Lefevre (abt.1640-1690), Andrew Lefevre (abt.1636-1696) or Isaac LeFevre (1669-1751).

On further review, he seems to represent an earlier, possibly fictional, Isaac than LeFevre-57 and so should not be merged with him.

I’m working on trying to sort out some of the relationships of various people with last name Le Fevre (and similar).

This profile seems to be a conflation of Le_Fevre-48 and LeFevre-57.

Following up on Michael Sanderson’s comment, I’d like to propose disconnecting Parentheau-3 as this Isaac’s wife (since she only had one husband named Isaac Le Fevre), and removing all of the references in this bio that belong to the Isaac of Manakin Town, Virginia.

Then, since there is also no evidence of the parents shown here, I’d like to disconnect them as well. Then he could be merged into the Pennsylvania Isaac, who has a profile at LeFevre-57, who is also said to have been born in Chinon, Indre-et-Loire, Centre, France (although there is no evidence of that either). Any objections?

Le Fevre-48 and Lefevre-81 do not represent the same person because: Lefevre 48 is the "Virginia Lefevre" who is depicted in the referenced article by Cameron Allen. LeFevre 81 appears to be one of the Pennsylvania LeFevre's and is much older than Lefevre 81.

Le Fevre-48 and Lefevre-81 appear to represent the same person because: They are clearly representing the same person. Two merges have been proposed last year but no match occurred.

LeFever-460 and Lefevre-81 appear to represent the same person because: same first name, last name, birth country, death date, spouse, death location.

Documentation regarding this Isaac Lefevre-81- Son of Andre LeFevre (Born 1648 died 1702 in a fort during persecution) is in a family genealogy.

George Newton LeFevre and Franklin D. LeFevre, The Pennsylvania LeFevres, digital book, (Strasburg, Pa. : LeFevre Cemetery and Historical Association, 1952), accessed at https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=wu.89061954632;view=1up;seq=17 on 14 Apr 2019, xiii.

Its possible the death location here: 13 Jun 1718 in King William, King William, Virginia is very much incorrect.

Compare Isaac LeFevre. (currently set as nephew of this one).
