Biography

US Black Heritage Project
Tom Lee is a part of US Black heritage.

Tom was listed in the Administration Papers for Henry Lee, deceased. He was likely part of the group of enslaved people willed to Henry's brother William H Lee. He is likely the 10-year-old boy in the 1860 Slave Schedule of William Lee

On February 2, 1867, Thomas Lee married Lendora Pugh in Bertie County.[1]

In 1870 Thomas and Lendora were living in Woodville in Bertie County with their 2 children, Jule (3) and infant William. Thomas was a general laborer.[2]

Thomas and Lendora remained in Woodville and in 1880 Thomas was a farm laborer. It appears that their son William had died as an infant, but in 1880 they had 3 children, Jule (11), Turner (9) and Martha (6).[3]

In 1900 Thomas and Lindora were living in a rented home in Woodville. They had been married 25 years and of the 5 children born to them, 3 were still living. Also in residence was son Ashley (13). Also living with them were father-in-law Hill Boone (80), mother-in-law Annie Boone (70) and brother-in-law Thad Boone (18).[4]

Thomas Lee, son of George and Jennet Lee, died in Woodville on January 2, 1918 at the age of 69. He was married. The informant was Juli Lee of Lewiston. He was buried at Mount Olive Church in Lewiston.[5]
