Josephine Lee was a Coeur d'Alene Indian, born about 1879 (her death certificate says 1882), the daughter of Louis Lee, a white man, and Elanora Paone, Coeur d'Alene. As was common at the time, she is listed as white on U.S. Census records since both her father and her husband were white men.[1] In 1890 the family is recorded living in Washington state, in the area served by the Colville Agency. Josephine, her mother Eleanor and her siblings are living with Eleanor's parents, Cornelius and Pauline. [2]
In 1899 Josephine married Charles Rinker. [3] They were the parents of four children, Mildred, Miles, Alton, and Oliver. [4] Josephine died January 6, 1917 [5] and is buried at the Fairmount Memorial Park, Spokane, Washington. [6]
