Biography

Annie (Leakins) Whiting is a part of US Black heritage.

Ruth Ann Leakins aka Annie, aka Elizabeth (see FindAGrave source) was born around 1855 in Maryland. She married Joseph Whiting in 1875. In 1880 she and Joseph lived in Frederick, Maryland, with their four children and two siblings of Joseph's. In the 1880 census Anna (age 25), Keeping House, was the wife of Joseph Whiten in Frederick, Frederick, Maryland, United States.^[1]

In the 1900 census Annie (age 44) was the wife of Jos H Whitting in Hagerstown, Washington, Maryland.^[2]

Research Notes

I did not find any records for Anna before the 1880 census or after the 1900 census. The death certificate of her daughter lists her maiden name as Annie Leetury or Lectucy?^[3]

There is a marriage record for an Oscar Rosten Whiting, born in Pennsylvania, whose parents are listed as Joseph Harmond Whiting and Ruth Ann Leeks.^[4] That appears to be a whole other family with coincidentally similar names.
