Biography

William Henry Layman, son of John Henry and Amelia Jane (Zeigler) Layman, was born about 1871 in Franklin County, Pennsylvania. He is found in the 1880 census at the age of 8 living with his parents in Antrim Township of Franklin County.^[1]

Sometime in or before 1903, he moved to Freeport in Stephenson County, Illinois, where he worked as a pipefitter. He died there on 17 December 1928 at the age of 56 years, 3 months, and 16 days.^[2] His obituary names no widow or children but does name his mother and 7 of his 10 siblings. It states also that his body was removed to his mother's home in Hagerstown, Maryland from thence for burial at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Greencastle, Pennsylvania.^[3][4]
