Elizabeth Laxton was born in Northamptonshire, England.

Biography

Elizabeth was baptised on 26 Aug 1792. Her baptism was recorded in the Parish Registers of Castor and Marholm, both villages in the Soke of Peterborough, Northamptonshire, England. She was the second daughter and fifth child of Joseph Laxton, a tenant farmer of Belsize Lodge, situated between Castor and Marholm, and Jane Wright.

An Elizabeth Wright Laxton married a William Joyce in Grantham on 15 Jun 1826. William was from Glinton, Northants. Whether this is the right Elizabeth is not known with certainty but given that she has her mother's maiden name as a middle name, it does seem likely. One witness was Caroline Laxton - a forename that hasn't appeared in this Laxton lineage before.

An Elizabeth Joyce was buried in Glinton on 20 Oct 1857, aged 62. Elizabeth Wright Laxton would have been 65 by then.

Research Note

This biography is highly speculative and needs independent verification. Only the baptism information is certain. A William Joyce was buried in Glinton on 8 Dec 1830, and was living in Coates near Whittlesey, Cambridgeshire, at the time of his death. This could be Elizabeth's husband. Coates is only a few miles from Peterborough.
