Erwin was born in 1886 in Charleston, South Carolina. He was the son of Merton Bernard Lawrence and Silvia Harleston. He married Kate Hairston at the home of her uncle in Farmville, Virginia. [1] He moved his family to Cleveland, Ohio in 1920, where he and his wife raised two children. He worked as a tailor. In 1968, he and Kate celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at St. Mark's United Presbyterian Church reception hall. [2] He passed away in 1972.
Erwin B. Lawrence: Services for Erwin B. Lawrence, 86, who was operator of he tailoring concession at Wade Park Manor when he retired in 1951, will be at St. Mark Presbyterian Church 1319 E. Boulevard N.E. at 1 p. tomorrow. Mr Lawrence, a former elder and trustee of the church, died Tuesday in Whitecliff Manor Nursing Home, 1205 Cedar Road, Cleveland Heights. His home was at 1351 E. Boulevard N.E. Survivors include his wife, Katie; daughter, Mrs. Sylvia McKinney; a grandson, three brothers and three sisters.[3]
