Biography

Marion was born May 17, 1866 in Rockcastle, Kentucky. He was the son of Uriah Laswell and Caroline French. He was the youngest child of this union. His siblings were: Charity Jane, born 1852, Nancy, born 1854, Jones, born 1855, William Andrew, born 1857, Elizabeth, born 1860, Josiah, born 1862 and Caroline, born 1864.^[1]

January 1, 1900, Marion married Effie F. Shields in Holton, Kansas. ^[2] The happy couple settled down in Tecumseh Township, Shawnee, Kansas.^[3]

June 28, 1900, the welcomed their first child, a son named Ray William.^[4]

March 12, 1902, they welcomed a second son^[5] but sadly he passed away April 8, 1902^[6]

1903, they welcomed their first daughter, Flora^[7] but by 1908 she too had passed away.^[8]

A second daughter, Edna was born June 23, 1906. September 14, 1909, they welcomed their third daughter, Elsie May.^[9][10]

March 26, 1916, Effie passes away.^[11]

1920 finds Marion, Elsie and Edna living in Lecompton, Kansas. He lists his occupation as a buyer of horses.^[12] He marries Evaline Browning on March 26, 1920 in St. Clair, Kansas. They have two daughters, Mary Nelle, born June 4, 1921 and Marian Opal, born August 29, 1923. At the time of the 1930 census, Edna and Elsie and living with Marion, his new wife and two young daughters.^[13]

He passed away June 28, 1938 in Lecompton, Kansas.^[14]
