Biography
This profile is part of the Lapham Name Study.
Deborah Lapham was born 10 Jan 1801, at Nelson, Madison County New York, the daughter of Duty Lapham (1775-1846) & Mary (Colwell) Lapham (abt.1772-abt.1812) (this source states Deborah's mother was Amanda but she & Duty did not marry until 1813). Deborah married Rev. Jonathan Wade 1822/3 at Hamilton, New York.
- "The Wades went to Burma as missionaries in 1823, and spent the rest of their lives there, except for the short visits back in 1833 and 1850. A story of their lives is contained in "The Wades Missionary Memorials No. 4," published by Walter N. Wyeth, D. D. of Philadelphia, Pa., in 1891."
Jonathan was born 10 Dec 1798 at Otsego New York and died 10 Jun 1872 at Rangoon, Burma. Deborah died 5 Oct 1868 at Taray Burma,[1]
Research Notes
Aldridge did not get Duty's wives straight "Laphams" inconsistently attributes some of the children to Amanda whom he married in 1813. All of his children were born before then & thus were Mary's. Substantiating this, from a biography of Deborah:
- "Changes came to her in her early childhood, by her mother’s death, her father’s removal to Hamilton, N. Y., when she was about ten years old, and by his second marriage to Mrs. Wheeler." [2]
