Biographie

Guillaume Langlois (~1580 - 1634)

Incorrect relationships

  • Guillaume Langlois is not the son of (Jean) Pierre Langlois and Marie-Madeleine Bourge: this couple lived in the province of Champagne at the beginning of the 18th century, more than 120 years after Guillaume was born, and far from Normandy.
  • Guillaume Langlois is not Sieur de la Potherie et Saint-Roch: this titled belonged to Nicolas Langlois, father of Marie Langlois wife of Jean Juchereau. There is no known relationship between Guillaume Langlois and Nicolas Langlois[4].

Biography

Guillaume Langlois's parents are unknown.

Guillaume Langlois, husband of Jeanne Millet, is the father of Noël Langlois, a pioneer in Canada, New France. [5].

Like his son, Guillaume Langlois was probably from the area of Saint-Léonard des Parcs, near Alençon in Normandy. His baptism and marriage acts have not survived and his parents are unknown.

He married Jeanne Millet, probably before 1605, and they had one known child, Noël Langlois.

He never went to New France and probably died in Saint-Léonard-des-Parcs. He is said to have died before his son Noël's marriage (on 25 July 1634), however, the marriage act makes no mention of Noël's father at all.

  4. The Langlois "de la Potherie et Saint-Roch" family is mentioned in Dictionnaire de la Noblesse, Aubert de la Chesnaye-Desbois 1867, p. 423, but nothing indicates any connection between Noël Langlois's father and the sieur de la Potherie

Hi Jane, I send a message to Find a Grave about all the wrong information on their site for Guillaume. I included this Wikitree link. Hopefully someone fixes it.
Is Langlois-52 and Langlois-3771 the same person?
posted by K Gradl
No. Langlois-3771 is the placeholder parent for Françoise and Marguerite. We don't have any proof Noël is related. I reverted the changes to Langlois-3771.

I am going to disconnect : Françoise, Jean and Antoinette: they were not his children.
If he married in 1603, what about his daughter Françoise, born in 1599 (???)

Marriage date corrected - thanks !
Oh, how can Guillaume Langlois be born in 1566 and married in 1503 (???)

I do see that the Chesnaye-Desbois book mentions the existence of a Langlois who was "Sieur de la Potherie et Saint Roch" in roughly the same area, but where is the evidence that this person in particular was the father of Noël Langlois? there are lots of Langlois.

The birth date and father are unsubstantiated. FYI parish registers for Saint-Léonard-des-Parcs only go back to 1667.

Guillaume Langlois is certainly the father of Noël Langlois (1606-1684). Noël Langlois, on the occasion of his second marriage on July 27 1666, states in a contract signed before notary Auber that he is the son of Guillaume Langlois and Jeanne Millet.

The father of this person, Langlois-328, is not documented anywhere except in a Geneanet tree which is patently incorrect (it has Marguerite Langlois, wife of Abraham Martin as daughter of Guillaume), I suggest disconnecting this person's parents.

The "Sieur de la Poterie" title should be removed as well. There were lots of Langlois in Normandy and no evidence appears to corroborate that this particular Langlois was a Lord.

Removed wrong name of "Boisverdun" for Noël Langlois (1606-1684). See numerous notes cited before on that subject.

There are other duplicates to investigate with the parents of Jeanne Millet, like Millet-75 with Millet-20, and Vincent-1070 with Vincent-265. All those need to be resolved....
