Ongoing Research on Lalor Family Tree

There are a number of 19th century sources that suggest that the Lalors of Clonagown, Tenakill, Ballyragget and Freshford were related in some way. This would suggest that the following Lalors were near relatives, possibly brothers or first cousins, probably sons of William (b 1670_::

William Lalor (c1700-1783) of Clonsoghey;
Matthew Lalor (b c 1705) of Clonagown;
Joseph Lalor (c 1700-1759) of Clonaheen;
Daniel Lalor (b c 1700) of Coolnecart;
Jeremiah Lalor (1707-53) of Ballyraggett;
Fr Denis Lalor (1717-62) of Mountrath;
Unknown Lalor (b c 1700) of Clonaheen.

The exact nature of the family connections between these various Lalors are not certain, and have been disconnected pending further research. .

The sons of William Lalor (c1700-1783) of Clonsoghey probably included Matthew Lalor (c 1740-c1800) of Clonsoghey, Joseph Lalor (b c 1730) of Clonagown and Patrick Lalor (1731-1805) of Tenakill;

Current research is centring on various manuscripts held in the National Library of Ireland: The 'Lalor Papers' of the Lalor Family of Tenakill, the Manuscripts of Fr William Carrigan (which include extensive will transcripts from the Leighlin & Ossory Dioceses) and Sir William Betham's Genealogical abstracts of records of the Prerogative Court of Armagh. Discussion is also occuring with Lalor family members around the world. For further information, please contact John Cherry.
