Biography

Henry Ladlow, son of Henry John Ladlow and Mary Ann Allington, [1][2] was born in about August 1840 in Shoreditch, Middlesex. [3] He married Mary Ann Watson on 5 December 1864 at St Judes church, Whitechapel, Middlesex. [4][5] He died in about November 1908 in Bethnal Green, Middlesex. [6]

On 3 April 1881 in Collingwood Street, Bethnal Green, Middlesex, with his wife Mary Ann Ladlow (incorrectly recorded as Miriam) and their children Mary Ann Ladlow aged 15 (also incorrectly recorded as Miriam), Henry George Ladlow aged 14, Elizabeth Ladlow aged 7, Anne Ladlow aged 6, Eliza Ladlow aged 3 and Jane Ladlow aged 14. On 5 April 1891 at 37 Collingwood Street, Bethnal Green, Middlesex, with his children Mary Ann Ladlow aged 24, Elizabeth Ladlow aged 18, Annie Ladlow aged 16, Eliza Ladlow aged 13 and Alice Ladlow aged 9. [12]

On 31 March 1901 in Collingwood Street, Bethnal Green, Middlesex, with his children Eliza Ladlow aged 23 and Alice Ladlow aged 19. [13]

Research Notes

There is a possible record for Henry in the 1841 census, living with his parents and his sister Jane in Busby Square, Bethnal Green. However the entry is extremely faint and could say almost anything - on Ancestry it has been transcribed as Henry aged 1 6 mo, [16] but on FamilySearch it has been transcribed as Ann without an age. [17] It is therefore not certain that this is the correct record.

In 1871 it appears that the most likely residence ought to be in Collingwood Street, Bethnal Green, as that is where he was living when his children were baptised in 1870 and 1874. However looking through the images of the 1871 census records for the whole of Collingwood Street there is no sign of the family, so it is possible they were either away or were just missed off.

In 1891 it is certain where they were living based on the record at Ancestry, but it is unclear how this record has been transcribed on FamilySearch as it does not appear in any obvious search variations. The record exists for their next door neighbours, [18] so is probably just badly transcribed.
