Biography

Walter James Ladbrook was born on 26th October 1907 at Queensland, Australia. He was a son of Arthur Ladbrook and Mary Robinson.[1] Walter attended Brisbane Grammar School.

Walter is a Boys' Brigade King’s Man or Queen’s Man

In 1919, Walter joined The Boys' Brigade in Ithaca Presbyterian Church. The fruit of his hard work and commitment was received in the form of The King's Badge (now known as The Queen's Badge), the highest award The Boys' Brigade has to offer young men. This he achieved in 1923 as just one of two Boys.[2]

Walter completed an apprenticeship as a motor mechanic and worked in the trade until 1937.[3]

He married Marjorie Firmin on 27th August 1934 at North Sydney, New South Wales.[4] They made their home at Arwin Terrace, Paddington, in Brisbane's inner western suburbs until 1949. They had a son:

Walter Ladbrook is a Military Veteran.
Served in the Second Australian Imperial Force 1942-1956
Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers

Walter joined the Second Australian Imperial Force (2AIF) on 3rd February 1942 for service overseas during the Second World War.[5] He was allocated as a junior officer to the Independent Brigade Group Workshops, Australian Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (AEME) with whom he remained after the war until 26th March 1956.

Walter married Honor Hazel Bamberry about 1955.[6] They had:

  • Russell Gregory Ladbrook (1956-)
  • Beverley Joy Ladbrook (-)

After his military service was completed, they made their home at 440 Church Road, Banyo and Muller Road, Boondall, in Brisbane's northern suburbs, where Walter worked as a taxi driver until about 1968.[7]

From 1972 to about 1977 he owned property at Fernvale and Marburg, west of Brisbane, upon which he grazed cattle.[8]

Walter passed away, aged 70 years, on 1st July 1978 at Brisbane, Queensland.[9]
