In Memoriam: Bill LaBach was an active and generous member of WikiTree. Their presence in our community will be missed. However, their many contributions will live on as part of our shared family tree. This is a gift they gave to family members, distant cousins, and future generations, and is now a permanent part of their legacy.

Biography

Bill LaBach was a son of Mary (Anderson) and James Parker LaBach, born 29 December 1938 in Lexington, Kentucky.

He graduated from Henry Clay High School and Transylvania University in Lexington and went on to graduate study at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, where he received M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in mathematics. Subsequently, he completed a fellowship at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey, and then held faculty positions in mathematics at Northwestern and Florida State Universities until deciding to make a career change. He earned a J.D. (law) degree and an M.A. in history from the University of Kentucky and engaged in the practice of law in Fayette and Scott Counties of Kentucky from 1975 until his death, specializing in civil and criminal litigation. He is the author of two books on law and the Supreme Court, The Supreme Court Fails Its First Test: Chisholm v. Georgia and America Wrestles with Race and Civil Rights: Dred Scott, Brown and Boumediene.

He was married.

He died from cancer in Georgetown, Kentucky, on 28 October 2013.

Bill had a strong interest in history and genealogy and made many valuable contributions to WikiTree. He served as president of the Kentucky Genealogical Society and as a national officer of the Society of Descendants of Washington’s Army at Valley Forge. He was a life member of the Society of the Cincinnati, Sons of the American Revolution and the Jamestowne Society. His WikiTree account was closed after his passing.

So much of his additions to wiki tree I have encountered. Great work of sites he had created. He will be sadly missed and praised for the work he has done here...
