Hi there! My name is Vicky (Freeth) Majewski and I am a WikiTree Mentor.

This is just a courtesy e-mail to see how things are going. Are you enjoying WikiTree so far? Any questions? Any issues?

Feel free to contact me via my profile page. I am happy to help!

Hi Andy,

You've been a member of WikiTree for about a week so I am checking in to see how it is going. The New Member How-Tos are for you to work at your own pace. If you had time to look, were they helpful?

I'm here to help with questions about how WikiTree works. Just click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page. I'll get back to you by the end of the day.

Debi ~ WikiGreeter

PS Did you discover that the tags on your profile are clickable links to a page of other people who have that tag? You can add more, up to 20 total.

Thank you Andy for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz

As pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working within the projects coordinating them is essential

Please ensure location data matches date of profile and avoid abbreviations. Citations & links for sources enable verification of data please add from wiki ID go to Research to find sources

Based on your comments theScotland may fit your research focus. If not, use the Pre-1700 Projects list to review other possibilities. Read the goals and tasks of the projects and join those which are a good fit

Links not working, in email, use the link in the public comments on your profile

Any questions just ask

Hi there, Andy!

We are delighted to welcome you to the WikiTree community!

You are now a full member. Please start with our New Member How-To pages. They will save you time and energy as you add profiles.

If the links in emails don't work correctly, check the public comments on your profile as the links will work from there.

If you have any questions, please ask as I am always happy to help!

P. S. I see that you are following the Caird, Carr, and Laing surname tags. By clicking on the tags you follow, you can see which other members share your interests. You may find a long-lost cousin!

You can see how your profile will be displayed at each privacy level by clicking on the tab for "Profile (public view)". After choosing your setting, you have several additional options to maintain privacy on WikiTree: you can use "Anonymous", an initial, or a nickname as your preferred name; alternatively, although not recommended, you could also use "Anonymous" or an initial for your surname. It's best not to anonymize your surname if you are hoping to get on trusted lists and share family tree info with distant cousins, etc. It's also easier to keep your gender private by anonymizing your first name.

I noticed you uploaded a GEDCOM. Here's a link to great information about GEDCompare, the process of adding a GEDCOM to WikiTree, that you might find helpful.

If you have any brick walls, collaboration might help bust through. Because WikiTree has only one profile for each person, the further back you go in your ancestry, the more likely cousins will find you and help out. ANY Wiki Genealogist can edit "Open" profiles (over 200 years old = open). There's also a brickwall tag in the G2G forum: brickwall

The help pages give lots of information about the process, best to start with 'Before you import a GEDCOM'.
