Alwyn Cecil Kurts was born on 28th October 1915 in Perth, Western Australia, Australia. He was the only son of Alwyn Cecil Kurts and Laura Claydon, with two older and three younger sisters. [1]
Alwyn married Jean Pember on 24th April 1935 in St Alban's Church, Highgate Hill, Western Australia. [2] They had one daughter, born in 1938. Jean divorced him in November 1939 on the grounds of his 'adultery with vaudeville artist Dulcie Kelly'; after they had separated. [3]
Alwyn moved to Melbourne, Victoria, where he worked as a war correspondent, before moving onto radio with his program, Raising a Husband, on radio station 3XY. [4]
From an inauspicious start, Alwyn became a well-respected and well-known Australian drama and comedy actor of radio, television and film; best remembered for his role as gruff Inspector Colin Fox in the television series Homicide. [4]
In 1979, he won the Australian Film Institute Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his role as the father of Mel Gibson's character in the film Tim. [4]
Alwyn married a second time, to Eileen O'Hehir. [5]
Alwyn passed away of liver failure, aged 84 years, on 4th May 2000 in Melbourne, Victoria, and is buried in Springvale Botanical Cemetery. [6]
