It looks like you may have some outstanding merges that can be completed. You can find them by following the link at the top of this page under >My Wikitree>Watchlist, then hit the button that says Pending Merges

Thanks for helping with Wikitree

Hi Carl,

Hope you're enjoying our site. Our primary vision is to build a collaborative tree with just one profile per person, so please make sure to look for duplicates on WikiTree before adding a profile.

Please review our Matching and Merging FAQ to understand your responsibilities in doing merges.

During a merge, the text from the merged-away profile is appended to the end of the text of the merged-into profile. After a merge, you will need to clean up the text by removing duplicate information and consolidating what is left leaving the profile with a single Biography section and a single Sources section.

The Help page on Biographies has a lot of great information on what to include and what to omit in a Biography.

Please also review all other family members for potential duplicates and review any conflicts in parents.

If you have any questions, just let me know.

Hi Carl,

How are you? I'm David a WikiTree Mentor. Thanks for adding profiles to WikiTree. There are reasons behind the eighth point in our Honor Code: "We cite sources. Without sources we can't objectively resolve conflicting information." A source provides a way to find out more about the person. Showing sources reduces confusion and duplicates.

Here is what our Sources help page says. It has lots of ideas: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Sources

The Sources Style Guide shows how to enter sources in the biography.

Having dates and locations attached to every person assists in our mission as well - if you have pre-1700's ancestors to add please read our Pre-1700 profiles info.

A free and very good website to find sources for your family/ancestors is Family Search.

And I'm here to help too, just ask!

Carl,

Congratulations on being Pre-1700 certified! Now it's time to pick a project that best fits the pre-1700 profiles you'll be working on. Is there a particular time period, location, or topic you're interested in? Look at the list of active projects to see if one fits your needs. Once you find a project that interests you, visit their project page for more information and to find out how to join. You can also use the Following link to add the project tag to your profile, and you'll be kept up to date on any activity that occurs for that project. Can't find what you're looking for? Let me know, and I can make some suggestions! :-)

Karl, Please remember that at Wikitree, we cite sources. Using an unsourced family tree to get started needs to be followed up by some sourcing activity.

Hi,

Now that you have had a little time to try WikiTree, there are a few more features you may find useful.

Ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards, including some tips on writing biographies.

If you need to describe an event, an heirloom or a location relevant to your research, you may like to learn about Free Space Profiles.

Lastly, sometimes you'll run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving those unfortunate situations.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask via my profile page.
