Biography

Hi, my name is Stephan Krutak and I am researching my ancestors since 2018.

My goal for joining the WikiTree is to get connected, not only with fellow researchers, but with my ancestors as well. The family name Krutak and its variants KRUTIAK, KRUTACK are quite rare however, the members of this family name are dispersed over the world and it seems quite hard to connect or reconnect each other.

The brick walls are oceans and the results of uncountable wars in Europe over the centuries, but maybe with help of fellow researchers and a good portion of luck, we will getting there.

Cheers, Stephan.

What I am currently doing

At the moment I am working through the early church books of Lundenburg and Altenmarkt and create a full index of all records for baptisms, marriages and burials. The reason is to get prepared for starting an ONS project for the Krutak family name.

If you are looking for someone in Lundenburg or Altenmarkt between 1683 and 1747, I may can help you by finding that person, as my index of person is groing nearly daily. Just get in touch with me.

Goals

  • Create an ONS Project
  • Reconnect as much Krutak family members as possible and append all to the big tree.

Sources

  • First-hand information. Entered by Stephan Krutak at registration.

Only the Trusted List can access the following:

Hi,

It’s Germany Project check-in time again! Please respond within the next 2 weeks and let me know if you’re still interested in participating with the Project. Remember, the only requirements for membership in the Germany Project are (1) that you work on at least one German profile every 6 months and (2) that you respond to this check-in.

Since you’re not working with one of our Sub-projects or Teams yet, please look at our main Project page for a full list and let me know which team you’d like to join.

Please respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message on WikiTree. In your response, we welcome any feedback you may want to give on the project (what you like about it, what you’d like to see us do, what we could change, etc.)

If you ever have any questions, please ask. I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Hi Stephan

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working with members of the projects which coordinate them is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus. Review the project pages for special guidelines and to learn how to collaborate with the project members, and please cite reliable sources in pre-1700 profiles you manage or edit, and have a look at our Sources page

Let me know if you have trouble finding projects which fit your focus by using the "reply" link under my comments or by clicking my name to visit my profile. From there you can leave a comment or send a private message.

Karen ~ Pre-1700 Greeter

Hi Karen,

Thank you for welcoming me into the pre 1700 projects group. My research area is mainly in old Prussia including Silesia and the Austrian Empire, before 1814. I’ve looked into the pre-1700 projects and some of them do fit in my area, however I can’t agree on the approach the Czech project is doing, as it contradicts with the WikiTree rules in regard of handling of sources, as they want to change the profiles according to Czech nomenclature, even though the source is in Latin or German.

In my specific research area are not many researchers out there, as the pre-1700 should be rather called pre-1770, as the information in the church-books before 1770 are quite scarce and the researcher must read the church-books from the beginning most of the time, not only for one place, but for the surroundings as well to get the necessary understanding. In addition, he or she must create their own indexes, as they are usually not in place, find patterns between families, places, and so one.

Although I do not agree with the Czech approach, I commit to stick to the sources and if I know things for a fact I create an extra paragraph to give more background for other researchers, as you can find out in my latest profile additions for the Family of Antonius Czapka and Anna Krutak in Lundenburg.

I would be pleased if I could get feedback from you or others if my way of doing things is correct or not.

Best regards, Stephan.

Welcome Stephan.

Thank you for upgrading and signing the WikiTree Honor Code.

I'm a volunteer greeter, here to answer your questions about WikiTree.

Our Member How-To pages can help you get started adding profiles or just learning your way around.

Welcome to the community!

Maureen ~ WikiTree Greeter

Hi Maureen,

Thank you for the welcome! Actually, I have 2 questions. First, I would like to hold information from my parents and grandparents strictly private, for some obviously private reasons hence, there would be no sources to the profiles as well. Is that already a breach of the code of honor? Second, does Wikitree is holding strictly to the GEDCOM standard or is wikitree using something else. If wikitree is using the GEDCOM standard, which version is used. Didn‘t find any info so far.

Hope these questions are not too hard on you. Best regrds, Stephan.

Hi Stephan

Here is some info about GEDCOM files for you. As far as I know, WikiTree uses the standard GEDCOM format.

The GEDCOM file does not automatically populate your tree. It generates a GEDCOMpare report which you work through, either accepting or rejecting all suggested matches. Once that has been done, you should see [add] buttons for each of the remaining names.

The GEDCOMpare process guide has tips on how to use the data in your file most efficiently.

For those using Chrome, Opera, or Firefox browsers, there is a tool that can help with the formatting of profiles that have been created through GEDCOM, so that you can concentrate on the research. You can read more about it in the WikiTree AGC FAQ.

As regards your privacy question, I will ask other members of the Greeters team about it and get back to you. In the meantime, you find the answer to your question on this page https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Privacy

Best wishes Maureen

Hi Maureen,

Thank you for your help. I will read myself through your suggested links in regard of GEDCOM and the tools available.

I might add, that from my Great Grandparents on I am gladly willing to share and contribute.

Now I am coming to a third question. Is it possible to create profile pages of person‘s who are not directly related to myself? Of course those persons are no more under the rule of privacy and of course those person and information about them I would back up properly with sources.

Kind regards, Stephan.

Hi Stephan

I think it's best if you read the Privacy link in detail. There are so many options for keeping info private to a greater or lesser degree and it will all depend on the birth and death date of each individual concerned.

As regards totally unconnected people, you are a WikiGenealogist and can add them using the "New Person" link under the Add menu at the top right of the screen. When you add a new person, the system will check to see if there are already any people with the same names/dates as WikiTree tries to avoid duplicates as far as possible.

Hope this helps Maureen

Hi Maureen,

I will check the privacy link in detail and see how it goes.

Thanks, this helps a lot. :-)

Stephan.
