Biography

Albert Alonzo Kratz was born 6 Nov 1861 in Humboldt Township, Coles County, Illinois, the son of Valentine Katz and Sarah L. Stevens. When Albert was about ten to twelve years old, the family moved to Oregon. Then, sometime between about 1882 and 1885, he married Lilly Cook, from Washington state, and together they had two sons.

Lilly died in their eighth year of marriage, leaving Albert a widower. In 1900, he was living with his two sons in Yamhill County, Oregon, where he owned a mill. Nine years later, he was living in Los Angeles, working as a bookkeeper, and there he met Mary Mitchell Lalor, whom he married in Santa Barbara on 7 Aug 1909. They lived out their lives together in Los Angeles, both working in 1930 for the city government, Albert as clerk of the city assessor's office, and Mary as stenographer.

Albert died 26 Aug 1941 and is buried at Inglewood Park Cemetery, Los Angeles, California. Obituary:

Funeral rites for Albert A. Kratz, 79, veteran employee in the city assessor's office, of 1903 W. 22nd street, will be conducted today at 10:30 a.m. in the White & Callanan Mortuary. Interment will follow in Inglewood Park Cemetery.
