Hi Bob and all other Krampitz relatives,

My name is Christine (Blumer) Spangler and I reside in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, USA. My maternal great-grandmother was Pauline Krampitz. She married Heinrich Peter in either Silesia, Prussia, Russia or ? circa 1880. They had 14 children who were raised in Adolin, Volhynia, Russia, in what today is Ukraine. I have been told that the family (Peter; now sure about Krampitz) moved with many other people in their hometown to Adolin in 1870. My grandfather, Theodore Petter, and his brother, Carl Peters, were the only two of the 14 children who emigrated to America. At least five of the remaining siblings died at the hands of Stalin's regime, either by starvation in the Holodomor or political assassination. I have had no luck finding information about Pauline and Heinrich's parents or exactly where either of them were from. I did find a marriage license for a Heinrich Petrich and Pauline Krampitz in Russia, but the dates don't seem correct. I would appreciate any ideas on where I might start to research the Krampitz name, including the country and region they might have come from. Any and all ideas are welcome. I have done an Ancestry DNA test and will soon be doing a 23andMe, so that might help. Thanks in advance for any help you might give! Chris.

Christine,

I had forgotten about this Wikitree site, don't remember posting to it. Myheritage is where I keep my family tree.

None of my Krampitz ancestors went to Volhynia, all were born & lived near Lipno Poland. I have saved all Krampitz names from all sources, and I will try searches for Pauline & Heinrich later today, The Krampitz name was likely taken from either of two villages in Poland, both named Krempeic, one near Gdansk "IC" at end of Polish words is pronounced like the German "ITZ"

My grandfather Gustav Krampitz changed the spelling of his name after he emigrated.

There is a Krampitz Family book at the German genealogy site, Use Chrome on a computer, it can translate for you. https://www.online-ofb.de/namelist.php?ofb=gurske&nachname=Krampitz&lang=de

I don't have much time right now, but you can email me at [email address removed] and I'd be happy to help with what I can, Been as this for 15 years, my 'brick wall' is my 3xGreatGrandfather Jacob.
