Biography

Louisa Dorothea Koch was born on 17 Jun 1807 in Niedernstöcken, Amt-Neustadt am Rübenberg, Hannover and baptized four days later on 21 Jun 1807. She was the daughter of Johann Heinrich Koch and Sophia Eleonore Pauling. [1]

On 23 November 1827 she married Heinrich Friedrich Kolze in Gilten, Amt Neustadt am Rübenberge, Hannover. [2] He was a small farmer, born in the village of Nienhagen and was the son of a small farmer. They raised seven children together, first in Nienhagen, then in Leyden Township, Illinois:

  1. Catherine Marie Magdalene "Mary" Kolze (1828-1912), married Elijia Peacock (1818-1889)
  2. Katherine Dorothea Kolze (1831-1909), married Dietrich Plesse (1810-1893)
  3. Anne Marie Dorothee "Annie" Kolze (1833-1921), married Lawrence Lorenzo Bowalski (c1829-??)
  4. Heinrich Friederich Kolze (1836-1894), married Caroline Banger (1843-1917)
  5. Henry Diederich Kolze (1839-1910), married Mary Bierman (1845-1869), Sophie Frank (1847-1926)
  6. Louise Sophie Kolze (1842-??), married Gustav Ehrhorn (1835-1915)
  7. Marie Catherine "Dora" Kolze (1845-c1859)

In 1860 and 1870 she was living on a farm in Leyden Township, Cook, Illinois with her husband and children. [3] [4]

In 1880 she was a widow living in Leyden, Cook, Illinois with her son Henry D Kolze and his family. [5]

She died on 16 Jan 1881 in Leyden, Cook, Illinois [6] and was buried at St John's Cemetery in Bensenville, DuPage, Illinois. [7]


Research Notes

  • Some sources give her date of birth as 15 Jun, but her birth/baptism record says 17 Jun, as does her confirmation record (1821 in Niederstocken, the same parish where she was baptized).
  • Gilten, Amt Neustadt am Rubenberge, Hannover is now Gilten, Heidekreis, Lower Saxony, Germany.
