Biography
Birth
- No record has been found of the birth of Betsey Knowles. The 1850 Census says she was 54 years old, born in New Hampshire,[1] and the 1880 Census shows her age as 83, born in New Hampshire.[2] Her age at her death from her gravestone computes to a birth date in January or February 1797.[3]
Marriage
- On 12 Nov 1814, Betsey Knowles of Chesterville, Maine, and Moses Young of Livermore, Maine, (both towns were then in Massachusetts) published at Livermore their intention to marry.[4] They married at Wilton, Maine (then in Massachusetts), on 24 Jan 1815.[5]
Death
- A gravestone at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Livermore Falls, Maine, says that Betsey Young died on 10 Oct 1889 at the age of 92 years, 8 months. Her FindAGrave memorial calls her Elizabeth "Betsey" Young, but neither her gravestone nor any contemporary record found of her uses the name Elizabeth.[3]
