Biography

I was born in Daylesford, Victoria, Australia on 2 June 1954 and went to Daylesford Primary School & Daylesford Technical High School. Both of my parents were from small farming families around the Daylesford area, in fact I am a fifth generation Daylesfordite.

My first job was with The National Bank of Australasia Ltd., starting in Daylesford and then transferring to Relieving staff. A promotion to Stock Exchange branch in Melbourne was followed by a move to Kew East & then Melton, Vic. branches.

After resigning from the National Bank I then joined the Forests Commission of Victoria in an administration and operational capacity and stayed with them for about 21 years.

Following on from the department I joined the Central Victorian Logging Co where I spent about 5 years until the demise of logging and forestry in the western half of Victoria.

A complete change in employment followed when I began working for Ross Bagpipe Reeds, manufacturing & exporting bagpipe bags all over the globe. Surprisingly I stuck that out for almost 10 years until I resigned & then began work at Thompsons foundry in Castlemaine until the foundry section was closed down after almost 150 years. They still assemble pumps and other items but the steel components are manufactured overseas.

In 1982 I married Rhonda Rixon and we have 2 daughters and a son who we are extremely proud of. Glenn has 2 sons & 2 daughters while Natalie's first child was born in 2016.

Rhonda & I moved to Bendigo in 2012 after living at Glenlyon near Daylesford for about 30 years.

A lot of our time is spent pursuing our grand children these days which is absolutely wonderful.== Sources ==

Congratulations!

This week we have your last stop on the guided tour. Hopefully, you're feeling like a WikiTree pro! If not, you can always revisit the tour stops via the comment boxes on the right side of your profile.

You've covered a lot of ground the past few weeks. Today, we want to give you just a few more tools that can take you even deeper into the WikiTree forest without getting lost: How to Dig a Little Deeper.

As always, your questions are welcome!

Shirley

Hi again,

You may have been hard at work adding family members and getting connected to those that are already here. You probably have at least a few profiles that you manage now. So, this week we're going to look at how to work with your Watchlist: How to Manage Your Watchlist.

Have questions? We want to help! Click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page.

You've been here for several weeks now! We hope your profiles are starting to come together and that you've enjoyed getting to know us a little better.

You're probably getting a good feel for the collaborative nature of WikiTree by now. We know that collaboration isn't always easy. So, we've put together a few pointers that can make working in this type of environment a little easier: How to be a Successful WikiTreer.

Don’t hesitate to ask questions as that is the only way we gain knowledge!

Thanks, WikiMessenger Cindy

PS Good work so far! Have you noticed on your ancestor profiles on the bottom right is "Research" where you can get sources and more information? Give it a try sometime!

Hello again!

It's time for your next stop on the guided tour!

This week, we'd like to show you How to Join in the Community. There's no shortage of opportunities to get involved through social media, our forum, and projects.

I noticed that you're following several surname tags. Check out our One Name Studies Project to see if any have a project you can join. You might also be interested in the following projects: Australia Project, or United Kingdom Project.

Please let us know if you have questions! Just click my name above the comment, then ask in the comment section of my page. We want to help!

I just wanted to check in with you to see how things were going. If you have any questions or need direction please feel free to contact me. Michelle~WikiTree Mentor

Welcome Darryl!

You are now a confirmed member, and you can get started adding your family members. As we've said, WikiTree is quite different from other genealogy sites. So, we've put together a guided tour to help you learn how to use it. Your first stop is How to Start Climbing Our Tree.

Tomorrow, you'll hear from a Mentor who will check in to see how you're doing and answer any questions you might have.

Next week, you'll get another message with your next stop on the guided tour.

You can also meet some of our members by joining in the fun with our Question of the Week in the G2G forum: [Who are the military heroes in your branch of the tree?

See you in the branches, Cindy

Hi Darryl!

Welcome to WikiTree! Be sure to take a look at the link in the email you just got. It has important information to help you get started. :-)

WikiTree is different than other genealogy websites because our goal is to have one profile per person, and that means we share ancestors and work together as a BIG collaborative team!

Confirm your email address, and you’ll be given an opportunity to fill in the Tags and comments to tell us about your genealogical interests. If you are interested in sharing your research and want to collaborate to add your family, please fill out the Tags on your profile page and click Save Tag(s) and Volunteer.

Once you volunteer, one of our Greeters will confirm your membership, and you'll be able to add your family to the tree!

Thanks, Cindy
