Joan (Kirby) Bides was born in Hertfordshire, England.
Joan Kirby was born in, say, 1580 (assuming she was in her early twenties when she married in 1601). Her parents were John Kirby and Joan Cranfield.[1][2] She was most likely born in Little Munden, Hertfordshire, England. If she were indeed born in this parish, there would be no record of her baptism owing to the loss of the early register.[1]
She married Thomas Hale on 19 October 1601 in the parish of Watton, Hertfordshire.[2] The entry in the parish register is as follows:[3]
"October 19 [1601] Thomas Haille and Joane Kirbie maried"
Her husband, Thomas, died in 1630.[1] Three years later, on 17 October 1633, she married John Bides in the parish of St Helens Bishopgate, London.[4] The parish register records the following:[5]
"John Bydes of Muden parva in the County of Hertford ye[oman] and Joane Hale of Watton att Stone in the same County were Married p[er] lycense the 17th of October 1633"
Her date of death is unknown. She likely died in Little Munden (once again, the parish register has been lost for this period), sometime between 1640, when she is named in her mother's will and 1660, when she is not mentioned in her brother Francis Kirby's will.[1]
