George Templeman Kingston has been called the father of Canadian meteorology. A professor of meterology at the University of Toronto and a director of the Toronto Observatory, he was the founding director of the national meteorological service (1871-1880).[1]
Born in Portugal in 1816, he was the son of Lucy Henry Kingston, a wine merchant, and his wife, Frances Rooke. His brother was the author William Henry Giles Kingston. He married Harriette Malone in 1851.[2] They emigrated to Canada with their baby daughter the following year. [3]A son, George, was born in Canada.[4]
George died of pneumonia in 1886 in Toronto, Ontario.[5]
