Thomas King was born 21 Nov 1820 & chrs. 17 Dec 1820 at Saint Andrew, Holborn, London, England, son of Thomas King and Susannah Elizabeth Richardson[1]
He went to City of London School and then at Oxford University[2]
He married Mary Chillman (sister of the New Plymouth settler Richard Chilman) in 1846 at New Plymouth, New Zealand.[2]

On arriving in New Zealand in 1841, he was a farmer. From 1861 to 1878, he became the manager of the Bank of New Zealand in New Plymouth for 16 years, from .He chaired the New Plymouth Harbour Board for many years until his death and he was the chairman of the New Plymouth Gas Company from its inception until his death[2]
He passed away in 1893 in New Plymouth, Taranaki, New Zealand (aged 72)[7] and is buried in the Te Henui cemetery [8].
