He was baptized in Colmcille parish in County Longford on 12 Sep 1869. His birthplace was listed as Aughnacliff. His father as John Kiernan and his mother as Bridget Shanley according to the Roots Ireland transcription. His godparents were John Corcoran and Bridget Hetherton. However, a look at the actual record page shows his mother as "Bridget Shanaghy" and that last name was the Irish for "Fox." Did the priest confuse the first name of the mother with the first name of the godmother?
