William Kidd was a Maryland colonist.

Origin

No birth record for William Kidd has been found. His birth year is an estimate based on the fact that he transported himself to Maryland from Virginia sometime before 1663 along with his wife, Mary. [2]

William used the Maryland patent process to claim land in Calvert County. He claimed two small tracts:

  1. 1684 - 84 acres Kidds Levels [3]
  2. 1685 - 59 acres Islands Plaine [4]

William Kidd died in Calvert County sometime between 20 MAR 1692/93 when he signed his will and 20 April 1693. The only document found on the microfilm roll of his will is the end showing his signature which was just his initials, [5] but there is a record of the will in the Maryland Calendar of Wills. His will mentions two children:

  1. William b. abt. 1670
  2. Margaret b. abt. 1675 m. -?- Wilson

He also mentions a son-in-law, Samuel Fowler. The name of his wife at the time of his death was Margaret, so he was obviously married at least twice.

Abstract of Will

To son William 59 A. on main branch Hunting Ck.

To son-in-law Samuel Fowler, ex, and hrs., “Burdict's Neck,” part of “Resurrection Manor.”

Wife Margaret and son-in-law Samuel Fowler afsd., residuary legatees;

dau. Margarst Wilson to have wife's share at her decase.

Test: Thos. M'Cenaham, Wm. Turner. 6. 47.[6]
