Biography

William Kidd was a Virginia colonist.

The William Kidd whose birth is recorded in Christchurch, Middlesex, Virginia in 22 Mar 1675 show as inline source; had a wife named Margaret, as verified by her death in the Christchurch, Middlesex, Virginia register show as inline source; and by the recorded births of their children, also in Christchurch, Middlesex, Virginia show as inline source. While some researchers believe Margaret may have been a Chowning, this has not been proven. The Chowning researchers know of no Margaret who married a William Kidd in this timeframe.^[1]

This William Kidd was the son of Thomas Kidd, the immigrant ancestor of this Kidd line. This Thomas Kidd may have had a brother named William (as suggested by Soham Parish, Cambridgeshire, England, records)--and there is some evidence to suggest that this William, who may have resided in Maryland, may have married a woman named Margaret Deare. This also has not been proven, and is only a theory.

Research into existing Soham Parish church records suggests that Thomas Kidd, the immigrant, may have been the son of William Kidd and Elizabeth Nethercote/Nethercoat.
